American premiere of 46 Parallel wines at BBWO-2020
In early February 2020 New York City (USA) hosted an exibition and tasting Barolo Barbaresco World Opening 2020 organised by the Barolo & Barbaresco Consortium. As part of an eventful two-day programme very important step for us was made: world wine experts tasted Ukrainian wines by 46 Parallel Wine Group from Grand Admiral and El Capitan collections. The experts have commended quality and potential of Ukrainian premium collectible wines.
Grand Admiral Cabernet Sauvignon — Saperavi — Merlot red wine of 2016 vintage is a premium vintage wine aged for 24 months in French oak barriques of “medium” and “medium +” toasting level, and further bottle aging. This wine has won the experts by its quality and long ageing potential.

“— The red sample has a rich, intense bouquet with exotic and sweet spicy notes. Thoughtful assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Saperavi, and Merlot endowed Grand Admiral wine with a soft and velvety taste. It is aged for 4 years, which means there is a development potential.”

“— The colour is deep, saturated dark ruby in a glass with purple flecks. My nose feels domination of saturated black fruits. The taste is quite luxuriant, complex, with a good texture. And with a various range of dark fruits and a cask for the balance. The aftertaste is rather continuous. The overall impression is positive. In my opinion, there are very good prospects for this wine in the world market.”

«— Technologically, it is very well made, the winemaker works perfectly with a cask. The wine seemed younger than the vintage indicated on the label. It should be pointed out that this demonstrates the wine’s maturation potential. Pleasant wine in all respects. The taste is mature; there is a harmony between the fruits and the cask, classic collection of black and red berries, chocolate».
El Capitan Rose wine of Pinot Meunier 2019 vintage is an exquisite work of art. Exceptional skill and expert work of our winemakers has made it possible to fully unveil specific flair of Pinot Meunier grape variety. The wine testers have noted its soft colour typical of exquisite and elegant rose wines:

“— In my opinion, the flavour of El Capitan Rose is really good, and a rose shade is felt in a tactful way. The taste is typical fruity, juicy and super refreshing. Fine rosé. Good quality for the money claimed.”

“El Capitan Rose demonstrates 100% of the best properties of Pinot Meunier. A pale pink colour with light salmon notes. My nose felt a wonderful combination of strawberries and raspberries. The taste is attractive, with good acidity and very pleasant, elegant berry notes. Pure and fresh, this can be a good, revealing encounter with the Pinot Meunier grape variety.”

“— First of all, I would like to emphasize a very attractive colour of El Capitan Rose. You definitely feel the winemaker’s class: this wine was very well made. Flavour range: harmony, juiciness, very pleasant fruitiness, like a full basket of small berries (juicy cherries, strawberries, and raspberries). The freshness of this wine is characteristic of the vine growing area. The mouthfeel shows a higher maturity of the grapes and a higher taste of alcohol, which gives fullness and warmth to the wine. At the same time, the sample demonstrates significantly lower acidity, taking into account the contents of alcohol and sugar. When analysing it, I understand that alcohol content is not high, but the mouthfeel indicates higher alcohol content.”
These positive reviews confirm that wines by 46 Parallel Wine Group deserve to make Ukraine’s sartorial statement in the world of winemaking and are the ones for Ukrainians to be proud of. They encourage us to stay committed to the chosen course.
